The art curriculum involves students in four aspects of the study of art: art history, art theory, art production, and art criticism. Students meet for art, on average, twice a week and many students use the school’s “elective” period to continue working on art projects.
Each lesson begins with a moment in art history, which provides students with the context or reason for their upcoming project. This is followed by examples and experimentation with the theory and methods behind the works of specific artists. When they are finished, students learn to apply critical thinking to their own work as well as the work of others.
