It can be difficult to navigate the different curricula and programs that might best serve your special needs child. With more than 40 years of experience, we understand the challenges that arise in trying to find the right school. We offer a state-approved education for autism spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s as well as dyslexia and other non-verbal learning disorders. We are committed to providing constant parent communication in a family environment with a strong, intensive transition program that helps Newgrange School students prepare for the real world and college.
Boasting over 40 years of experience, we have different professionals, including social workers, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, as well as learning disability consultants to help our students in and out of the classroom. With accreditations from the Middle States Association, CESS and the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, we are certain to offer a quality education to all of our students.
Our core curriculum includes the language arts, mathematics, science, the arts, and health/ physical education.
Since our establishment, we have always stayed true to our mission by offering education to students, ages seven through 21, with language-based learning differences. Our instructors identify and understand the strengths and difficulties of each student to ensure a personalized approach to their education. Our special education and academic programs are targeted at children in grades two through 12 who have learning disabilities or other special needs.
Our language arts program utilizes Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Reading System® curriculums to educate students within the realm of reading, writing, and oral language. We focus on literacy to give students the ability to decode words while building phonological and phonemic awareness. Reading comprehension is also a target focus. We encourage our students to build a strong language base to better understand story structure and develop inference skills. Newgrange teachers are highly trained to equip our students for success in language arts.
At the Newgrange School, students work within a multisensory environment tailored to their specific needs. We focus on concrete math skills, but we also work diligently with students who are struggling with probability and discrete mathematics. Our scholars soar with skills that serve them throughout everyday life, as well as prepare them for college or technical training.
We feel strongly that scientific understanding leads to big idea thinking. Our students engage in scientific exploration at the earliest grades to build an inquisitive mind and learn through hands-on, inquiry-based lessons. Our science curriculum is multisensory and aligns with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, focusing on science practices, physical science, life science, Earth science, and astronomy.
History comes alive through the Newgrange School’s social studies programs. We teach the curriculum in an engaging manner and walk our learners through the basics of a community before going in-depth with state, national, and world history concepts. We want our students to be citizens who engage in their environment and believe strongly in the benefit of a worldview.
Art and music give our pupils a way to express themselves beyond the basic tenets of the classroom. These classes meet regularly and students are also encouraged to work on projects and enhancements during elective periods. The arts are also incorporated into typical classroom experiences to add to the multisensory approach. Additionally, physical education, health classes, and driver’s education are available to give students the life skills they need once they graduate from our program.
The Newgrange School is an extraordinary place for those with special needs to learn and flourish. Call us today to learn more, or to schedule a visit to our Hamilton, NJ campus.
